Role Consultation, Balint Groups, Reflective Practice Groups

Role Consultation

Role Consultation offers clients a space to speak about their work, and its impact on them, in one-to-one sessions. Many of us talk to friends and family about challenging situations in our work. However, friends and family tend to be focused on fixing and/or comforting. Role Consultation allows the client to think about themselves in their work, their role, to explore different angles to the challenges.

Balint Groups

Michael and Enid Balint started work with GPs in the 1950s, with the intention of encouraging doctors to think about their relationship with their patients. It has since extended to other professions, including education. I currently co-lead two educational Balint Groups, one for primary principals, and one for second-level principals. Balint Groups offer practitioners a chance to explore their feelings, within the context of their work. I currently work with both primary and second-level principals. Myself and a colleague are exploring the idea of Balint Groups for other professionals, particularly in the not-for-profit sector.

I am an accredited Balint Group Leader, with the Balint Society.

Reflective Practice Groups encourage people to think about their practice within their profession, as part of a continuous learning process. To give you an idea as to the kind of groups I run, two of my most recent groups:

Trainee solicitors (as part of the Law Society Hybrid PCC Training)

Guidance Counsellors (as part of DCU MSc in Guidance Counselling)
